CRISPR-Cas13 editing could offer new avenues for treatment
Scientists at the Broad Institute, who were involved in the technology of CRISPR gene editing, have developed another molecular tool, “SHERLOCK” (for Specific High Sensitivity Enzymatic Reporter unLOCKing) that acts on RNA instead of DNA. Key to this is a cutting enzyme “Cas 13a” which is able to chop up RNA in as little as one part per quintillion sample. The Broad team believes this could be a successful approach to dealing with difficult viral infections. MORE
