A Blood Test for the Cause of Stroke

Ischemia Care
Acute ischemic stroke is life threatening, but can be reversible if the restricted blood flow is corrected quickly, which greatly depends on physicians knowing where the insufficiency originated (i.e. in the heart or the vascular system). To aid in that diagnosis, a Cincinnati company, Ischemia Care, has developed a blood test that locates a stroke by the body’s immune response. The down side of this test is that it still takes four or five days to get the results, while the patient can be losing more than a million brain neurons per minute. That’s why Ischemia Care is planning a point of care scenario that gives results in the “golden hour” when response is most effective. MORE
