Growing Skin with Blood and Lymph Capillaries

When natural skin is grafted onto, say, a burn site, its full thickness contains blood and lymphatic capillaries, sebaceous glands, pigmentation, hair follicles and nerves. But natural skin is not always available; so, skin grown in tissue culture has been a promising source and recently, scientists at the University of Zurich’s Children’s Hospital isolated blood and lymph capillary cells and used them to grow skin that transported those liquids.
