Surgeons implant some 600,000 total knee replacements ever year, but it is a bloody business with risks of infection and design malfunction. An alternative approach is a partial prosthetic that aims at bone preservation. In short, this is a cap that is custom fit over an individual’s deteriorated bone—made by computer-assisted manufacturing from CT imaging.
