Regrowing Sensory Cells in the Inner Ear
February 16, 2010 | Terry Sharrer
Age-hearing loss usually proceeds equally in both ears, but occasionally, greater loss in one happens due to a tumor on an auditory nerve, the effect of vascular dilator drugs for blood pressure and ED, or some sort of trauma that injures the sensory hair cells of the inner ear. GenVec (Gaithersburg, MD) is now developing “TherAtoh”-an adenovector-based gene therapy aimed at inserting an atonal gene in the sensory hair cells. GenVec is partnering with pharma giant Novartis in this work. MORE
