Innovation and Affordable Care?
Dutch electronics giant, Royal Philips, has entered into a fifteen year collaboration, worth $300m, with Georgia Regents Medical Center (Augusta, GA) for research and development of care delivery innovation in the areas of radiology, cardiology, neurology, oncology and pediatrics. According to this report, this is a first-of-its-kind relationship between a major European technology provider and an American academic health care system. Their aim certainly will be improved care delivery and provide more affordable care to the hospital and perhaps to the patients. According to Health Grades, Georgia Regents Medical Center had only one above average measure for patient safety, with 8 average and 4 below average. Less than a mile away, the larger University Hospital (no apparent affiliation with a university) is GRMC’s chief competitor. MORE
