What Defines “Medical Necessity?”

If anything might be described as “deliciously intergovernmental,” the legal doctrine of “medical necessity” is a prime example. State and federal law often are in conflict-medical marijuana being one instance. But medical necessity is based on evidence-based standards of care which is quicksand of change in itself. How this crucial doctrine of reimbursement and clinical care will hold up in an age of personalized medicine is anybody’s guess. MORE
