Kidney Organoids More than Stem Cells
February 26, 2019 | Terry Sharrer
It was a surprising finding that 10-20% of cells in kidney organoids actually were cells of other tissues—resulting from aberrant development of stem cells—both embryonic and induced pluripotent. Researchers at Washington University of St. Louis, however, found that by suppressing the signaling between two neurotropic proteins (or their genes) they were able to reduce the off targeting by 90%. This may benefit organoids for drug testing, but that might not be good enough for whole-kidney regeneration strategy. MORE
