Lots of companies make vital signs monitors for hospitals—Welch Allen, GE, Philips, Cardiotech, et al. Most have alarms in case of sudden death, but Excel Medical (Jupiter, FL) claims to have the “world’s first patient surveillance and predictive algorithm platform.” Its algorithm has demonstrated up to a six hour window before cardiac arrest happens. This piece doesn’t say how much this product costs, but existing machines range from around $500 to ten times that much. MORE
