Intestine-on-a-Chip
April 24, 2018 | Terry Sharrer
Microengineers at Cedars Sinai Board of Governors Regenerative Medicine Institute (Los Angeles, CA) have created an “intestine-on-a-chip” that simulates a person’s intestinal lining. The polymer chip, about the size of two AA batteries, has intestine cells in its channels, though it is unclear from this report whether the product actually used a patient’s stem cells in the device or the researchers supposed that could be done. With a patient’s own cells, this is a significant step toward personalized medicine. MORE
