A Smart Watch for Monitoring Blood Pressure

We have seen “smart” watches before which claim a capability of monitoring blood pressure. Most have gone nowhere, but the concept is too appealing to abandon. Here, an Apple Smart Watch, with a Cardiogram app, has demonstrated an 82% accuracy in blood pressure monitoring during sleep (when BP falls to its lowest level during 24 hours). The monitoring depends on a “deep learning” algorithm, but like earlier devices, the description of how it works is vague. Maybe now is the time for a “fight club” competition in this genre. MORE
