“Doc Watson” Building a Practice

Noting that about a third of US health care expenditures (i.e. $1T of $3T) is inadequate, unnecessary, uncoordinated or inefficient, IBM’s Watson Health plans to use supercomputing to optimize those expenses. To that end, it has created an imaging collaborative of sixteen partners (including Eastern Virginia Medical School, Sentara Health, UC San Diego Health, University of Miami Health System, et al) to integrate imaging, molecular diagnostics and other data into precision health care protocols. Among other things, this demonstration of cognitive computing should show how machines can learn. MORE
