3-D Printing a Living Ear

Using “bio-inks” made of a degradable plastic like material and water based gels containing cells regenerative medicine scientists at Wake Forest University have built an “Integrated Tissue and Organ Printing System” that can print living tissue such as an ear. To hold the cells in place, the printer lays down a lattice of microchannels which allow blood vessels to form and nutrients to reach the living cells. MORE
