Wearable Sensor Measures Blood Flow

“Clever” was coined for an idea like this. A professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has developed a tiny electronic patch that has a heating element in the center and a ring of heat sensors around it. As blood beneath the patch is heated, it moves and the sensors can determine the volume and direction of that movement. For conditions such as diabetes, heart failure and atherosclerosis blood flow is an important indicator of these pathologies and this patch is a simple means for making that determination. MORE
