Artificial Pancreas System

People with Type 1 diabetes are especially vulnerable at night, when their glucose level can fall precipitously and cause seizures, coma or even death. To address this, researchers at the University of Virginia developed an artificial pancreas system (glucose sensor, insulin pump, and data control) that also has a smartphone app for coordination. This device is now being tested at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York. MORE
