Spinal Neuroprosthesis Restores Walking in PD Patient

“Targeted epidural electrical stimulation (EES) of the lumbosacral spinal cord modulates the activity of motor neurons through the activation of large-diameter afferents where they enter the spinal cord through the dorsal root entry zones. This physiological principle enables real-time control over the activity of leg motor neurons. Concretely, the individual dorsal root entry zones innervating lumbosacral segments are targeted with a precise timing that reproduces the natural spatiotemporal activation pattern of leg motor neurons.” MORE
