A Wearable Cytometer

Most of the wearable biosensors on the market today monitor heartbeat, respiration and movement. Others are working on blood pressure, oxygen saturation and glucose levels. Rutgers University engineers, however, have gone a step further than any others, with a wristband that takes a blood sample for cytometry and sends the readings to a smartphone. Quoting directly, “The device that has electronics placed onto a flexible circuit board, uses a tiny needle to draw blood from the wrist. The blood then passes through a narrow channel fitted with gold electrodes that can count different types of cells passing by, in addition to other small objects.” MORE
