An adult’s liver can fully regenerate its original mass from as little as 25% of its remaining undamaged or diseased tissue. Telomerase-expressing stem cells, distributed throughout the organ, are responsible for this feat. But they also are responsible for generating liver cancer. Discovering the divide between the good and bad outcomes is key to regenerative medicine. MORE
