Heart Tissue Regeneration Potential

Cardiomyocytes, like brain cells, stop regenerating after a brief window. But inducing them to cell cycle again is a strategy for regenerating a broken heart. To that end, researchers at the Gladstone Institutes (San Francisco) found that stimulating only four genes in a stem cell-cardiomyocyte culture solution did the regenerative trick for about 20% of the cells in animal studies. This approach may also apply to other tissues. MORE
