Breath analysis has been a compelling research field for about 50 years—though moving slowly because of difficulties in identifying individual metabolite markers associated with diseases, and being able to detect multiple markers at the same time. A San Francisco startup, Adamant Technologies, believes it can make progress on both questions and create a solution in the form of a smartphone attachment which can measure some body chemistry reactions and, in time, develop algorithms to detect lung cancer, melanoma, diabetes, asthma and tuberculosis.
