Healthcare: The Most Dangerous Occupation
October 29, 2013 | Terry Sharrer
Even nurses might guess that construction sites or factory floors are more dangerous places to work than hospitals or nursing homes, but they would be wrong. By far, the greatest number of workers injuries and illnesses occur in health care facilities (e.g. 152,000 more than in manufacturing). And its not just back strains and cases of flu; it’s gunshot wounds in hospitals, and contagious disease transmissions. OSHA, which is charged with guaranteeing workplace safety for all workers, pays little attention to hospital and nursing home compliance.
