Colon Capsule Endoscopy: Automated Image Scanning

Colonoscopies with an endoscope certainly are invasive and expensive. But camera pills offer an alternative which as least is less invasive. Supporting colon capsule endoscopy, researchers at the University of Texas in Austin have written an algorithm that scans the camera’s images and evaluates the shape of tissue, looking for curvatures that indicate polyps. Automated image scanning isn’t perfect, as some polyps can hide in the folds of normal tissue, but endoscopy has the same limitation. MORE
