Some bone fractures are so devastating as to require amputation, but with a new blend of biodegradable plastics from the University of Southampton, it may be possible to create an artificial scaffold that saves a limb. This piece doesn’t identify the plastic ingredients, though it gives the publication citation, and it notes that they form a honeycomb matrix which supports blood vessel growth and the natural implantation of skeletal stem cells.
