Interpreting Genomic Sequences

With the latest generation of DNA sequencers, the so-called “$1,000 genome” is a reality, and the breadbox-sized machine that makes this possible costs $149,000. The next step toward clinically useful sequencing is in the interpretive analytics, and that may have been reached too. The Mayo Clinic’s Center for Individualized Medicine (Rochester, MN) and Silicon Valley Biosystems (Foster City, CA) have agreed to use SV Bio’s software to interrogate DNA sequences for a large number of Mayo’s patients—perhaps first identifying genes responsible for drug metabolism and individualized dosing.
