Volatile Organic Compound Profiling: Breath Test for Cancer

Gastrointestinal cancer produces volatile organic compounds in its metabolism that differ from normal tissue, according to researchers at University Aldo Moro (Bari, Italy). They found 15 compounds in the breath of those patients that formed a profile, with 86% sensitivity, 83% specificity and 85% accuracy. Further studies may show higher percentages in each case. MORE
