Telemedicine provider, InTouch (Santa Barbara, CA), and robot manufacturer, iRobot (Bedford, MA) have entered collaboration for their “RP-VITA,” standing for Remote Presence Virtual and Independent Telemedicine Assistant, which could be a rounding robot or a portable telemedicine diagnostic platform. The product has cameras, microphone, 3-D mapping sensors and a stethoscope, with a capability of connecting to other devices such as a digital otoscope or a hand-held ultrasound. With more than 5,000 hospitals, 15,000 nursing homes and 28,000 assisted living facilities in the US, RP-VITA appears ready for take-off. MORE
