Hematopoietic Stem Cells Grow Laryngotracheal Implant

Earlier this year, surgeons in Sweden successfully implanted a trachea that was taken from a cadaver and “regrown” with a patient’s stem cells. But more recently, bioengineers in southern Russia created a nanocomposite trachea scaffold and seeded it with a patient’s bone marrow stem cells, using a rotation device in a box. Apparently, this is the world’s first synthetic trachea. MORE
