Minimally-invasive surgery is becoming more minimal, with micro-robotic tools that give the maneuverability of a daVinci machine and the one-incision pathway of a laparoscope. This piece describes the new “Sprint” micro-robot developed at the BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy). It is being used for abdominal surgery, as in removing stomach tumors or stomach-reducing weight loss procedures. MORE
