Telemonitoring Heart Failure Patients

In a sense, this piece reinforces what is already known—that the success of telemonitoring patients for heart failure depends on the monitoring system’s design. Researchers at the University of Toronto used cells phones to track 22 CHF patients over six months. The study required that the patients actively enter information about their weight, and blood pressure, and answer repeated questionnaires via the cell phone, with that information going to their cardiologists. Results showed that this monitoring diminished anxiety and generated empowerment, which might seem obvious, but are keys to patients taking responsibility for their own care. MORE
