CBO’s Long Term Budget Forecast for US Healthcare

Healthcare spending in the US now stands at 5.6% of total GDP; the Congressional Budget Office forecasts that rising to about 10% by 2035. In 2009, private health insurance accounted for 34% of spending; Medicare and Medicaid, 39%; and consumer out of pocket spending, 13%, with the remaining 15% in “other” public and private spending.
