“POC” Killer Apps
June 21, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
“Microfluidic-based diagnostic devices are on the brink of supporting decentralized testing,” asserts this report. But “brink” is not quite there at present. What needs to happen, in the technical realm, is cheap, disposable “chips,” and a novel source of external power. Less expensive reagents would be a boost, and demonstrated accuracy would be nice. Maybe the brink is wide, but there’s little denying that microfluidics in point-of-care devices is a killer app for healthcare, whether as consumer products or means for public health screening. MORE
