Using an inexpensive LED light, aluminum foil, milk protein and Jello, a chemistry team at the University of Texas-Austin has made a matchbox sized sensor that, with from a drop of blood, detects the sudden and sometimes life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas. “In essence, the device is a battery having a trypsin-selective switch that closes the circuit between the anode and cathode.” MORE
