Philips’ Advanced in-Patient Monitoring Suite

You have to read between the lines of this story. Royal Philips Electronics (Boeblingen, Germany) recently announced its “IntelliVue” patient monitoring system for in-hospital vital signs tracking, which includes wireless sensors for ambulatory patients. By and large this already exists in critical care, but Philips’ announcement mentions low acuity patients including the elderly and those in chronic care which hospitals see as the “silver tsunami.” Longer lengths of stay, and declining reimbursements for this population have hospitals everywhere worried about their economic future.
