Interpreting Echocardiograms in Telemedicine

Digital stethoscopes already allow physicians to listen to a patient’s heartbeat alone, lung function alone, and then, heart and lung performance together. Now, a study of echocardiograms via telemedicine shows near perfect accuracy over distance. Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City carried out the research with 905 cardiograms send from other cities in Missouri. More than a dozen major abnormalities were found this way, without the children having to travel as far as 160 miles to the hospital. MORE
