Chromosomal Microarray Proposed as New Standard for Pediatric Testing

Most tests for genetic diseases seek a single mutation or observable chromosome abnormality. Chromosomal microarrays, by comparison, reveal copy number variations-deletions or repeats-that are implicated in development delays, autism and birth defects. With increasing evidence that this diagnostic works when conventional methods do not, the International Cytogenomic Array Consortium urges chromosomal microarrays as a new standard for pediatric testing.
