Ionic Toothbrush

Dental plaque is a biofilm of Streptococcus and other bacteria that adhere to tooth enamel and cause cavities, tartar buildup and gingivitis. The adhesion physics involve the plaque’s positive electrical charge, and the enamel’s negative charge. Knowing this, Global Ionics, LLC (Pleasantville, NY) has developed and clinically tested an electronic toothbrush that emits positive ions which temporarily change the enamel’s charge to repel plaque, and then negative ions to attract plaque so it can be brushed away. Test results were impressive. MORE
