Amadeus Surgical Robot
In head to head competition with the da Vinci Surgical Robot (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, CA), Titan Medical, Inc. (Toronto, Canada) has introduced its Amadeus Surgical Robot, which supposedly has superior navigation and positioning, communications and vision. Both machines have four arms for different devices. While Intuitive has a head start of more than 800 units in place, there is plenty of room for Titan, as the projected global market is about 6,000 machines and there are few other competitors. Possibly, the most limiting factor for surgical robots at present is the relatively steep learning curve and the small number of surgeons who are capable of using these machines. A plantiff in Tampa, FL alleges that St. Joseph Hospital was negligent from inadequately training a surgeon on the da Vinci robot who cut an aorta, killing the patient. MORE
