Telemonitoring Diabetes
June 23, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
Microsoft and the University of Miami are running a 25 patient pilot to see if distance monitoring (by computer and online reporting) can better manage diabetes. The patients, mostly on Medicaid, use the monitoring to indicate any change in their condition. If blood sugar levels rise or weight changes, a nurse practitioner or primary care physician contacts the patient to investigate the circumstances. The pilot aims to determine whether or not this kind of interaction can reduce costs, such as those in coming to an emergency room for diabetic shock. MORE
