1st Real Time Monitor for Hand Washing
June 30, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
University of Florida Medical School professor Dr. Richard Melker has developed a sensor which detects hand sanitizer and soap fumes on healthcare workers’ hands. That sensor is now build into a new device, “HyGreen,” that works with a care-givers’ RTLS badge to tell if hands have been cleaned between patient visits. If hands have not been washed, a reminder vibration is sent to the badge. According to the CDC, two million patients suffer hospital acquired infections a year, and 250 people die from them every day-urging that the helping hand be clean. MORE
