Since 2003, the National Quality Forum has produced consensus reports on safe practices for better healthcare-adding and deleting items over time. Its 2009 report list 34 safe practices ranging from leadership structures to pediatric imaging. Item 33, for example, says “take actions to prevent patient falls and to reduce fall-related injuries by implementing evidence-based intervention practices.” Evidence exists that patients are more likely to fall after taking pain medication; so, that should be taken into account. In effect, this list represents target problems which medical automation might be able to resolve in many instances. PDF COPY OF THE REPORT
