The death of actress Natasha Richardson, seemingly from a minor fall, highlights the need for a quick and inexpensive blood test to determine whether a head injury is minor, moderate, or life threatening. Currently, no such test exists in the US, but a company, spun out from the University of Florida, Banyan Biomarkers, is working on a panel of blood markers for assessing head trauma and expects to start clinical trials early in 2010.
