Safety Design in EDs

The Agency for Health Research & Quality (HHS) recently funded a safety survey of ED conditions in 65 hospitals (interviewing 3,500 clinical staff). Among the findings were that two-thirds of the clinicians reported insufficient space; one third said the patient numbers exceeded the ED’s capacity because of physician and nurse shortages during busy periods. Only a third said that ED patients were monitored often. MORE
