Physicist Abraham Katzir at Tel Aviv University is carrying out human trials that show the effectiveness of a feedback-controlled laser, using optic fibers, to close wounds with a protein “solder.” The feedback process prevents overheating the flesh. In closing laparoscopic surgeries for gall bladder removal, laser-sealed incisions actually healed faster and better than procedures finished with sutures. MORE
