Preserving Proteins

Stanford University researchers reported in late September they have a drug that retards protein degradation. While they see this as a way of studying protein activity in living cells-by changing the rate of protein breakdown, the drug might also be used as a preservative in maintaining frozen cells at minus 80 degrees (the range for automated freezers), rather than minus 200 degrees (the range of non-automated tanks).
