Siva Kumar, at the RMK Engineering College in Tamil Nadu, India, recently presented his group’s work on software for X-ray image analysis that produces a histogram from the film’s variations in pixel intensities.  What they found was that healthy teeth and those showing early stages of decay were quite different-indeed, the X-ray histogram revealed a spectrum of developing caries.  FIND AN ABSTRACT of the research article which appeared in the International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology
