CRISPR + AI

CRISPR-Cas9, as its name indicates, is a two-part technology. CRISPR locates a target sequence, and Cas 9 is the scalpel enzyme that cuts DNA. While this has been proven to work experimentally, and now even clinically with two children born in China, two kinds of mistakes have been demonstrated. Off targeting is one problem and induced mutations is another. This piece mentions an artificial intelligence program that is predictive of some errors gene editing can make. The next step is to fine tune the accuracy for broader clinical usefulness. MORE
