MUSING – iRemedy: A Simple Cure to an Old Problem
Studies have shown that consumers are increasingly asking for the ability to communicate with their physician via email or other social media avenues, as well as faster access to personal medical information via electronic delivery. However, currently, less than 1% of consumers have regular email or other electronic communication with their healthcare providers.
iRemedy, a recent product offering from Paquin Healthcare, is unique in that it is free to consumers and physicians.
Consumers are able to electronically connect with almost every type of business that is important to them on a daily basis, with the exception of healthcare. While we can pay bills online, make a dinner reservation, or schedule an oil change, it has been impossible to ask a simple question of a healthcare professional or get routine health information via email.
iRemedy gives consumers the power to communicate with any healthcare professional via text or email. HIPAA regulations (patient privacy rules) had acted as a barrier to an unfettered communication process for consumers who would like to save time and money through the use of tools like email for their personal healthcare needs.
iRemedy and the iRemedy mobile app allow consumers to build their own ‘care teams’ and share information amongst their personal network. Care teams may be comprised of family members, healthcare professionals, nutritionists, pharmacists, and anyone else an individual may wish to include in his or her care team.
