Blood-Repellant Bandages

Bioengineers at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (i.e. ETH Zurhch) have developed a superhydrophobic material that staunches blood loss from a wound and doesn’t stick to the clot after the blood dries. Their design relied on immobilized carbon nanofibers that attract fibrin. Besides benefiting blood loss, this material has an antibacterial effect, diminishing the risk of infection. MORE
