“You are what you eat” is only a slight exaggeration. Albert Einstein wasn’t a great physicist because he ate his vegetables, but he did die of an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture which may have been triggered by his microbiome. This piece, from the Baylor College of Medicine, posits that a high quality diet is linked to beneficial bacteria in the gut, resulting in better health. It does not, however, go on to explain how bacteria release chemical messages that nerve cells in the colonic mucosa relay to the brain and influence immunity. MORE
