Smart Body Area Network Architecture Standards
September 24, 2019 | Terry Sharrer
In 1987, the European Telecommunications Institute established a standards protocol that allowed systems in different European countries to communicate with each other. Now, ETSI has worked out an architecture for smart body area networks that brings together wearable, implantable and ingestible sensors, relays, cloud infrastructure for electronic medical records, and local and remote monitoring. With these standards, a Spanish vacationer in Denmark who has a medical emergency can have his or her health and medical data available for emergency department doctors. It’s worth musing over why this does not, and maybe cannot, exist in the United States. MORE
